Islanders for Ferry Action

Via Ferry

You can get to Vashon via West Seattle (Fauntleroy Terminal) or Tacoma (Point Defiance Terminal).

Tickets are round-trip and are purchased as you drive-up to the ferry docks as you head over to Vashon.

Pedestrian tickets can be purchased at the ticketing office close to the boarding area.

Water Taxi

Jump on the pedestrian-only water taxi from Pier 50 near Downtown Seattle.

The Water Taxi only runs on weekdays.

Once you get to Vashon, grab bus routes 118/119 to get many places along the central core of Vashon.

On-Island Ground Transportation

  1. Drive a Car: If you want to visit all corners of the island, you’ll want a car. (Especially key if you’d like to visit our Troll Oscar.)

  2. Bring a Bike: There are a wide number of suggested bike routes on Vashon. Please note that Vashon Island is full of hills, so it’s certainly not an easy trek. Yet, a fun challenge for intermediate and advanced cyclists. (of course, eBikes can make it easier)

  3. Take the Bus: Routes 118/119 run back-and-forth from both Vashon ferry docks. You can simply flag-down a bus if you want to get on.

How do I visit Oscar, the Vashon Troll?

It’s best to have a car or bike when visiting Oscar.

He is located at Pt. Robinson park on Vashon Island. It’s a quick ferry ride, but about 12 miles from the ferry terminal.

You can take a ferry from Fauntleroy in Seattle, Pt. Defiance in Tacoma, or Southworth near Port Orchard. Click here for Washington State Ferry routes and schedules from your nearest terminal.

The island does have a bus system, but it does not serve Pt. Robinson park. The closest bus stop is about 3 miles away from Oscar and doesn’t run daily. You can see the bus schedule by clicking here.

Once you’re on Vashon, there are soooo many things you can do, so it’s truly worth it to bring a car/bike if you can. From eating and shopping in our fantastic uptown to taking in a wonderful forest hike, Vashon is certainly worth a day trip (or a longer stay!)
